In light of the recent escalation in the Middle East, IranWA was invited to speak on ABC Perth Radio to reflect the concerns and emotions of the Iranian community here in Western Australia.
Representing thousands of Iranians in the diaspora, our message was simple yet powerful: The people of Iran are not the Islamic Republic. For over four decades, they have endured repression, violence, and the denial of their most basic rights. And now, they are once again paying the price for decisions they did not make.
During the interview, we spoke about:
The emotional toll of watching our families and homeland come under threat
The long history of state violence in Iran — from the early days of the regime to the Aban Massacre and Mahsa Amini’s death
The difference between the regime’s actions and the wishes of the people
The uncertainty and grief felt by the Iranian community in Perth and beyond
Our hope for a free and peaceful future — but not at the cost of more lives
As a community, we stand in solidarity with all Iranians who worry for their loved ones and their homeland. We are also committed to sharing relevant support services, mental health resources, and opportunities for connection during this difficult time.
We may be far from Iran, but we remain united in grief, hope, and the call for justice.
