Community and Government Updates

80 Years of Migration + Launch of OMA

Australia is celebrating 80 years of formal immigration services, with over 6 million migrants contributing to our nation since 1945.

This year also marks the launch of the Office for Multicultural Affairs (OMA) — a new national body focused on strengthening multicultural policy and services.

Free Mental Health Support – No Medicare Needed

Medicare Mental Health Centres offer walk-in support for adults (18+) feeling anxious, distressed, or overwhelmed.

No Medicare card, referral, or plan is needed. Interpreters available.

TIS National – Free Document Translation

New migrants holding eligible visas can now translate up to 10 personal documents (e.g. birth certificates, school records) into English — free of charge.

Scam Alert – Immigration Phone Calls

Scammers impersonating immigration officers are calling community members.

They might ask for personal or banking info. Hang up immediately and report suspicious calls.

Cybersecurity Labels Coming for Smart Devices

From March 2026, smart devices like security cameras and speakers will carry official security labels.

This helps you choose safer products for your home.

The ATO now offers multilingual guides for lodging your tax return — including Persian.
